Amber Dhara, the story on the first ever conjoined twins on television might end soon. Kashmira Irani and Sulagna Panigrahi may soon be free of each other. The Amber Dhara girls who could not be seen in public without each other need not worry as the conjoined twins saga may end soon.The buzz is that 25th April is the last day. When we spoke to Sanjay Upadhyay, Head of Fiction, Sony Entertainment Television, he denied the end news, but did accept that all is not well with this unique show. “The TRP’s are not doing well and we have given the producer notice to improve the ratings”, stated Sanjay Upadhyay.

Apparently, while the channel’s programming team wanted to incorporate some changes in the story, the producers were adamant about having it their own way. In fact, the producers wanted to take over the story, scripting and casting of new characters entirely, without consulting the creative team of the channel. Amber Dhara’s sagging TRPs may lead to the most clichd twist in the tale - the separation of the twins. Off-screen, the producers and the channel are playing blame games, which may lead to them parting ways soon as well .
Amber Dhara, the serial that was launched with fanfare on Sony TV, is caught in a nasty tug-of-war between the producers and the channel.

We caught up with Sudesh for a frank tete tete on the show and his career. Sudesh Berry who made his mark in movies like Vansh and Ghayal, returns to TV as Amber and Dhara’s long lost father. Here is a chit-chat with the versatile actorGiven the relatively low TRPs of the saga of conjoined Amber Dhara, the creatives have decided to add some spice by introducing the long lost father of the twins. Renowned TV and film actor Sudesh Berry will essay the role of Dev Shukla, the husband of Mona Ambegaonkar.

Talk us thro’ your character in Amber Dhara?
I play the conjoined twins’ long lost father. He had abandoned them at birth, for he did not want to face the ridicule of fathering such abnormal children. Now years later, he again faces his family. He is the prosecuting lawyer against Dhara, who is accused of shooting Akshat’s mother, Kamini. My wife Mona is the defense lawyer.

I play the role of Kunal who is visually challenged and a band leader. This is a very different character as I don’t walk with the stick. I also have a strong sixth sense. Besides that I do all the work that normal men can do. He is going to help Amber Dhara in achieving their dream. I am paired opposite Dhara as her love interest and may be in future I’ll get back my eyesight.I had done proper homework…I went to a blind school and interacted with some children. I also watched movies like Sparsh which gave me an insight about their body language and their difficulties. It was a good experience and I love my act in the show.

Amber and Dhara escape from the circus, only to face more ironies of life.. Enter Milind Soman into the serial, who acts as a precursor for the girls, exudes the much-needed confidence in Amber and Dhara..

Amber & Dhara escape from the circus…with the help of some of their well-wishers there. On their journey, they face innumerable hurdles– chasing goons, anti-social elements trying to trap them, ridiculing pubic…Finally they find themselves in a fancy dress party. The glitz & glamour, the loud music & dance, colorful lot of people…all simply scared them. Soon they realize that they are at a party where the city’s who’s who is present. Most of the people at the party are oblivious of their presence and do not even recognize AmberDhara. And when they do notice them, their being conjoined makes for a great fancy dress idea! The girls are surprised & shocked at the irony of life– whether it is the circus, or the fancy dress party, nobody wants to accept them as they are. They are recognized as freaks or are looked upon as conjoined twins who are different from the rest.

The word ‘Circus’ on Television takes us back to the memorable days, when the now ‘Baadshah of Bollywood’, Shah Rukh Khan and Renuka Shahane came together to give the viewers, a story revolving around a Circus Show, a serial that depicted the highs and lows of the people who made the whole world laugh with their acts.

The Euphoria associated with a Circus Show is going to be back again on Television after 16 long years, as Sony’s newly launched serial Amber Dhara will give the viewers a platform to laugh, or can we say, cry, with the girls Amber and Dhara, who are ruthlessly thrown into the World of Circus by the notorious conman Anuj, played by Nasir Khan.
